Today I decided to dress causual to hit the grocery stores. I found out today that shopping for food in NYC is quite different from what I’m used to. Of course there are regular grocery stores (nowhere close to they size of a Publix or Harris Teeter, but similarly structured). Most people shop small, buying meat at a butcher, buying fruit at a fruit stand, etc. I went to a butcher for the first time today and I went to a fish market. I can’t believe I waited this long to get my meat from a butcher’s. I couldn’t even tell you the reason why I’ve never been to one before; I just haven’t. My friend’s go quite often, and when they don’t, it will probably mean that they have hunted for their meat and will be using the best electric meat grinder that they have to prepare it. The type of meat that they prepare varies, it just depends on the animals that they’ve caught that day. They were telling me to have a look for a meat grinder myself the other day, but I’ve only just gone to the butchers for the first time and I only want to place all of my focus on one aspect at the moment. Shopping this way has helped to broaden my horizons.

Not only is it way cheaper to buy your groceries this way (so if you’re looking at how to save money around your home, you might want to consider this) but you also support small business at the same time. It’s important not to wear a super luxe shoe just in case you drop ice on yourself at the fish market, or fruit etc.

Why a poodle skirt for food shopping? I’m not usually a jeans and t-shirt kind of person and I really like the freedom that comes with wearing a longer skirt on a breezy day. It’s super easy to toss on a skirt and pair of oxfords. If you want to try something new from jeans and a t-shirt, try a t-shirt and a skirt! It sounds simple, but switching it up by just that much might give your outfits a whole new boost!

I’m finally starting to get around the city easier. Today I roamed around the wholesale jewelry markets and ended up buying wholesale sterling silver jewelry. I learned some interesting things.

1. You can barter at some costume jewlery stores

2. If you want you can buy in bulk and use a discount

3. The cheapest place in the city don’t take card, they only take cash!

My favorite thing today (because I can name a ton) about NYC is how diverse the shopping is. If you can think it, it’s available for purchase somewhere here.

Ferragamo shoes for today. Matchy-matchy can be fun.

These earrings I scored at Marshall’s for $14! They can be worn two ways, the underside of the earring can be removed and you can wear just the studs. Two pair in one!
