Fall has officially defended on us here in New York, New York. And while the anticipation of fall was rather large, it came rather shockingly fast. On the first day of autumn…a single leaf fell on the pavement in front of me, and immediately afterwards, I shivered.
It can be a little tricky dressing for fall here because the mornings and early afternoons can be freezing. Then, the late afternoons are sweltering. What are you to do? I like to keep a t-shirt or blouse on with short sleeves, or totally made of cotton, with a jacket that’s easy to remove.
There’s a beautiful little story behind this clutch. I first saw this in an advertistment in Cosmopolitan. I knew that one day in the future I would move to Manhattan. I remember telling my mother about it and showing her the photo. We looked high and low for the clutch and then one day… as I was walking out of a store in the mall. I saw it. I pressed my face a little too eagerly against the glass in Kate Spade and about five seconds later it was in my hands. A gift from my mom, I treasure this piece particularly. It was one I acquired from my hometown and I realized how monumental it was that I actually moved and could wear this piece. I get asked about it very often.
Shirt: Vintage 70′s
Jacket: Zara leather
Shoes: 60′s smoking slippers (resoled to wear out!)
We got all our engagement photos back and I love all of them. I opted to do a full engagement photo session. A lot of people find this to be a strange thing to do, but in my opinion you only get married once, make the most of it!
Of course I never go small, I went huge! With a gorgeous Monique Lhuillier dress I got from renttherunway.com, this gown was beautiful and so full. I had a blast twirling around in it. Bren chose his sapphire blue Zara suit. It was actually not on purpose that I matched my shoes with his suit. In fact, I didn’t even notice until much later. <3
Fact: your high heels will in fact get stuck in between planks of wood in a bridge and cause you to be completely immobile while dozens of runners and bikers appear out of nowhere. Hilarity after your escape will ensue.
I found that the less I thought about the camera being there, the more comfortable I felt. Bren and I normally don’t show any PDA in public, besides the occasional peck on the cheek when leaving and holding hands. It was a little hard to warm up- going zero to sixty.
If you go on the bridge to take pictures, the wonderful people of NYC will cheer you on and shout many beautiful congratulations your way, making you feel like a total glamours celebrity. We both loved the good attention. <3
At the very end of the day, it’s not about how big your dress was or how beautiful the pictures came out (but they were both magnificent), it’s being able to look back and remember how elated you both felt. I’m beyond thrilled to be getting married and I know that no matter where I go, if I have Bren, I have everything.
The day that Brendan proposed, he told me to make sure I wore something nice. I didn’t know we were going to a palace but I was excited to see what I could pull together to go to one. Bren has in the past told me to wear something nice specifically because he knew I would want pictures. I really took more time than usual to pick this outfit.
When traveling it’s essential to pack things you can wear more than once, such as a coat, a hat, sunglasses. Many tourists think they have to sacrifice style for comfort. This is not the case! I wore a white cotton off the shoulder top, warm wool coat, pants and chiffon pants.
I was so pleased to see that my outfit seemed to even mimic the colors of the flowers in the garden.
France was surprisingly chilly but once the sun peeked out it was finally warm enough to go without a jacket.
I felt really good in this outfit and I even felt glamorous. This might be one of my favorite looks ever. The best part was that none of it was planned!
